ROAM - Rivers Oceans & Mountains

Sea Kayaking on Chilko Lake with Rivers, Oceans and Mountains

Our Company

Who are these people and where are they taking me?

Mark Trueman

Mark Trueman

Mark was born in BC and has spent much of his life exploring its rivers both by kayak and raft. As anyone who has spent time on the river with him will tell you: his experience shows. Aside from his comfort and skill in whitewater situations, Mark also possesses an unsurpassed ability to discuss just about any topic guests can think of; there is never a lack of food for thought when traveling in his raft. Mark is also an expert telemark skier and is instrumental in ROAM’s new ski programs.

Jamie Salinas

Jamie Salinas

Jamie started with ROAM as the chef at the Lodge at Chilko Lake, where her only complaint was from the guides, who were gaining weight after sneaking late-night seconds of her amazing deserts. Jamie will be making appearances at the Lodge and on the river, but her main role this summer will be transforming the menu at the newly acquired Farewell Harbour Resort.  With a degree in biology and 12 years of experience working with the animals at the Fort Worth Zoo, Jamie is also a great person to talk to about the wildlife in any of the areas ROAM travels.

Ashley Scanlan

Ashley Scanlan

Ashley has been guiding her way around the globe, exploring remote regions via river rafting trips, trekking, multisport adventures and horseback tours.  Her passion for guiding has taken her throughout Canada, US, Chile, Guatemala, Ecuador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Africa and counting.   She found a home with ROAM in 2007 and has since been splitting her time between Canada and Latin America with just the right balance of expedition style rafting trips and luxury sailing and multisport tours.  Ashley's genuine enthusiasm and welcoming demeanor, makes her the perfect host no matter what country you are visiting.

Amy Flexman

Amy Flexman

When Amy’s dad took her rafting as a teen, she thought it would be cool to guide some day.  Ten years later, she enrolled in WILD - an intensive 90-day whitewater program - and fell in love with the guiding life. Since then Amy has kayaked and rafted over 40 different rivers in Canada, the US, Mexico, Chile and Argentina. When Amy’s not working for ROAM she runs a high school outdoor education program. As a guide and a teacher, she dreams of one day having her own school/outdoor program where she can combine all her skills. Amy says, “I'm ALWAYS stoked for the river and outdoor adventures.  I'm always learning – there’s so much to explore outside!”

Tamar Glouberman

Tamar Glouberman

One day Tamar noticed her mind wandering as she navigated the most difficult rapid on the river she guided day trips on. She realized it was time to move on. When her first ROAM trip included rappels down three unrunnable waterfalls and jumping into a free-falling raft after it was pushed off a ledge, Tamar knew she’d found the challenge she was looking for. Seven years later, she’s still excited to be working for a company that is constantly adding new adventures to their roster. Tamar recently started guiding ROAM’s Latin America trips and now realizes she might love surfing as much as paddling.

Neils Jewitt

Niels Jewitt

As a child, Niels went on a rafting trip with his mother in Idaho.  It was all going well until Kevin Bacon commandeered the boat and demanded his mother guide them to the end of the run where they could get away with their loot.  He was scarred by this and didn’t go near whitewater again until he was 19 taking a semester long guide school.  Since then Niels has guided and kayaked a plethora of rivers in Canada, the U.S., Costa Rica, Mexico and Chile.  As a Swiftwater Rescue Technician, WEMR Medical Responder and outstanding harmonica player Niels is an asset to any trip he’s on.   He has the strength of a Grizzly and the grace of a moose.
