Paragliding is a quiet kind of freedom—the kind that lifts you without rushing you. One moment you’re standing on solid ground, heart humming with anticipation, and the next you’re floating, suspended between earth and sky, carried by nothing but air and trust.
Up there, the world slows down. Roads turn into ribbons, worries shrink to specks, and time stretches wide. The wind becomes a companion, guiding you gently, reminding you that flight doesn’t have to be loud or fast to be exhilarating. There’s joy in the simplicity of it: no engine, no walls, just you, the wing above, and the endless blue.
Paragliding awakens something ancient—the human urge to soar, to see the world from a new perspective. It’s a blend of calm and thrill, serenity and awe. Each glide is a quiet celebration of balance, of letting go, of being fully present in a moment that feels both fleeting and infinite. And when your feet touch the ground again, you don’t just land—you return changed, carrying the sky with you, already longing for the next flight.
Despite not using an engine, paraglider flights can last many hours and cover many hundreds of kilometres, though flights of one to five hours and covering some tens of kilometres are more the norm. By skillful exploitation of sources of lift, the pilot may gain height, often climbing to altitudes of a few thousand metres.
Invermere, BC, on the warm, western side of the Canadian Rockies is a famous location for paragliding and has excellent sites for learning. It is also home to Max Powers, a Red Bull sponsored paraglider, who is an excellent instructor and guide. ROAM has teamed up with Max for an unprecedented 8 day/7 night program for beginners to learn the art of paragliding (and get your certification well under way).
The first 5 days will be the P1 Paraglide rating program which involves a fun mix of classroom theory, ground school and your first flights. The second part of our week includes the P2 Novice rating. Of course, your entire stay will be seamlessly organized, ROAM style, with great accommodations, meals, drinks, guides, equipment and after class activities.

About your Trip Leader
Born and raised in Kempten Allgäu, Bavaria, Germany, Max Powers discovered his passion for flight in the late 80s, with involvement in paragliding and hang gliding – ultimately becoming a paragliding instructor and test pilot.
Max immigrated to Canada in 1992 where he expanded his expertise in the air to include flying single-engine aircraft and sailplanes, and he became an ultralight flight instructor in 2003, eventually opening his ultralight school in 2015.
Max has competed in the challenging Red Bull X-Alps four times and continues to share his passion for aviation as a part-time flight instructor, tandem pilot and paragliding guide in both the Canadian Rockies and the Alps.
