In South America’s southern frontier, nature, long left to its own devices, grows wild, barren and beautiful. In Patagonia, spaces are large, as are the silences that fill them. For those who come here, an encounter with such emptiness can be as awesome as the sight of jagged peaks, pristine rivers and dusty backwater oases.
Based in northern Patagonia, this lodge-based multi-sport embeds all the elements Patagonia and the Bariloche region of Argentina has to offer: hiking, horseback riding, kayaking and river rafting. There are also optional yoga and polo lessons, massage therapy, kite boarding, paragliding, climbing, fly fishing and pretty much any adventure activity you can imagine! Strung out along the shoreline of Lago Nahuel Huapi, in the middle of the national park of the same name, Bariloche (formally San Carlos de Bariloche) has one of the most gorgeous settings imaginable. Truly a year round adventure destination, the wealth of activities available nearby in the surrounding countryside, has helped it become the Lake District’s principal destination.
Peuma Hue is a retreat within the middle of this incredible bustling adventure domain. Our luxurious lodging lies at the foot of Mt. Catedral at the southern end of Gutiérrez Lake and allows a plethora of adventure options. You can ride on horseback, hike and climb within the 500 acre property or link to wonderful mountain trails (in the national park trail network). Guests can paddle kayaks or fly fish on the lake or raft a pristine river, returning each night to the incredible luxury of our full-service waterfront accommodations. The soaring peaks of Cerros Catedral, Lapez, Nireco and Shaihuenque (to name just a few) – all well over 2000m high – ring the town, giving picture-postcard views in nearly every direction.

What to Expect on the Patagonia Multi-Sport – Argentina
Today is your arrival to Bariloche. It’s a scenic 40-minute drive from the airport to the estancia, nestled in the heart of Nahuel Huapi National Park and along the shores of Lago Gutierrez. Arriving to the main lodge through ancient forests sets the tone for what you are about to experience all week. After checking into one of our spacious cabins, you will meet your guide and hosts. A delicious lunch will be served with homemade products from our organic vegetable garden that you may want to pair with an excellent Argentine wine. Soon after, your guides will tailor an adventure schedule just right for you.
This is a sample itinerary of what your trip may be like:
In the afternoon, we’ll take a horseback lesson and ride to the Avalanche Waterfall, crossing through South American beech forest and bordering the lake. Later we meet for cocktails around the fireplace and enjoy a traditional Asado with local specialties cooked on the open fire.
After waking up in this paradise, you’ll indulge in a buffet breakfast. Later we trek to a waterfall, crossing even more Nothofagus centenary forests, and soak in the superb views over the Gutiérrez and Mascardi lakes. You will breathe in the power and energy of the Grand Waterfall and try its pure and crystal clear water. After lunch your guide will give you a sea kayaking lesson and we’ll be off for a tour along the lake, easily reaching the waterfalls that feed it. Upon your return, perhaps an optional massage may be in order to end a special day? Cocktails and dinner at the Main House.
Today we’ll let you sleep in a little longer before plying you with breakfast treats like home-made pastries and jams, fresh berry tarts from our organic orchard or whatever you like best at breakfast time. Early risers may take in some yoga or hike on the miles of trails throughout the estancia. Today there’s more kayaking, hiking, or riding while optional rock climbing and/or mountain biking can also be organized if interested?
Whatever the case may be, late in the day we will head into the city of Bariloche for some exploration. Often dubbed, “The Switzerland of Latin America”, the town features all manner of restaurants, shops and even a Chocolate Museum! More recently, Bariloche has become famous for its microbreweries and craft beers. We will be certain to sample a few (of the 55 breweries) on our craft beer tour and tonight we’ll dine at one of the brewhouses before making our way back to the estancia.
After an early breakfast, we’ll take a short shuttle to our river base. Guests will be able to choose between a class II or class III-IV whitewater rafting experience on the Manso River. The scenic drive, bordering a number of different lakes in the midst of the Andes and beautiful valleys, will fill your soul with the beauty of this well named “Lake District”. This is an exceptional day on the water and you will be treated to fun rapids, great scenery and a huge picnic lunch. We’ll return to the estancia in the afternoon with enough time for a siesta, a hike or casting a line for trout before another great dinner party at the estancia.
Today we have many options to consider, so here’s a few:
Hike back to our magical forest, where we can breathe in the very special energy of this unique spot on Earth. This time, to the Dagostini Waterfall, and we’ll snack at a beautiful scenic point on a giant rock overlooking the Continental Divide. The trail will lead you then to another powerful place by a series of waterfalls. Condor watching is quite often in this area and the energy unique. In the afternoon, rest and read by the lake or join our trail guide for a horseback ride up to Mt Pontoneros. With wonderful views over the Andes, the lake and lodge below, you’ll feel like the condors you saw soaring earlier in the day.
For those wanting a bigger challenge, we have a full-day ridge hike that will bring you in touch with peaks of the Andean Range as we explore the Frey Valley. A location sought by climbers from all over the world, you will quickly witness its majesty. The diversity of this one-day trek is unbelievable. Expansive lake views, lush valleys, granite spires, snow-covered peaks and radical rock formations are just a few of the superlatives we will see. At the day’s end we will hike down the Van Titter Valley to Lago Gutierrez, where we’ll get picked up by a zodiac speedboat and brought back to the lodge.
After this full day of adventure, you may enjoy another healing massage or just rest before cocktails and dinner. Tonight we celebrate Patagonian style at one of Bariloche’s world-famous parrillas. Here we’ll indulge in all manner of grass-fed organic beef and sample excellent regional wines (vegetarian options are also available). It will be a fitting end to an unforgettable stay.
There should be time to take in a morning activity and enjoy the last views and beauty of the Nahuel Huapi National Park before transferring to the airport . Fly to Buenos Aires or transfer to Chile for our Lakes District Multisport or a Futaleufu rafting experience.
