About your Trip Leaders

You could say that Ricky Forbes has his head in the clouds. With over a decade chasing the wildest weather on the planet, he’s seen his share of tempestuous experiences including witnessing over 500 tornadoes and being caught in a 4km-wide monster – the largest on record.

But it’s his enthusiasm, professionalism and passion for documenting these colossal storms that has won him acclaim as a nationally-recognized expert, appearing in documentaries, as a guest star on TV and in his own Netflix series, “Tornado Hunters.”

When not in the field, Ricky finds the real calm in the eye of the storm with his family in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Braydon Morisseau has built his reputation in the heart of Tornado Alley. With many years of experience chasing and forecasting severe weather, he’s witnessed hundreds of tornadoes and has become a well-known and highly respected name in the storm-chasing community.

Known for his sharp eye for storm structure and real-time decision making, Braydon plays a key role in positioning teams safely and effectively in the field, contributing to major tornado intercepts and dramatic weather footage seen across television and social media.

When not on the road, Braydon’s passion for the science behind the storms continues, always learning, always analyzing, and always driven by a deep respect for the power of nature and the people who chase it.

What to Expect on the 8-Day Storm Chasing Expedition

Day 1 – Arrival & Orientation

Arrive into a pre-determined gateway city within Tornado Alley, selected based on long-range seasonal forecasting to provide the best access to developing storm systems. The exact meeting location may vary slightly between departures to ensure optimal positioning for the week ahead.

Upon arrival, guests transfer to the hotel and meet their guides for a welcome briefing and orientation. The evening includes an introduction to storm chasing fundamentals, safety protocols, forecasting basics, and an overview of how the expedition will unfold — setting the tone for a dynamic and immersive week.

Days 2–8 – Storm Chasing Expedition

Each day begins with an in-depth forecast briefing, where atmospheric models, radar, and satellite imagery are analyzed to identify the most promising storm targets. From there, the group sets out in customized storm-chasing vehicles, traveling across the open plains as conditions evolve — often crossing multiple states over the course of the expedition.

Time in the field is spent positioning strategically to safely observe supercell thunderstorms, dramatic cloud formations, expansive lightning displays, and — when conditions align — tornadoes. Locations are chosen with experience and precision, prioritizing visibility, safety, and real-time storm behavior.

The road itself is a defining part of the experience. Long drives between storm targets provide an intimate look at small-town America, wide-open prairie landscapes, and the character of the Great Plains. Along the way, guests have opportunities to stop at local roadside cafés, classic diners, and regional favorites — offering an authentic taste of Americana woven naturally into the journey.

Evenings are shaped by the weather and the evolving forecast, often spent reviewing the day’s storms, capturing dramatic skies, or positioning for the following day’s developing systems. The constant movement, decision-making, and shifting scenery create a sense of momentum that defines the expedition.

Weather Variability & Down Days

Severe weather is inherently unpredictable, and not every day will produce high-impact storms. On quieter weather days, the experience naturally shifts rather than slows, with time spent observing storm structure, discussing forecasting strategies, refining photography, exploring the regions we travel through, and positioning for upcoming systems. These moments often provide some of the most rewarding insight into the storm-chasing process, ensuring every day remains purposeful, engaging, and an essential part of the overall expedition.

Accommodations

Accommodations are selected daily based on storm positioning and logistics, allowing the expedition to remain flexible as weather systems evolve. Each night is spent in comfortable regional hotels, chosen for convenience, safety, and proximity to the next day’s storm targets.
